Archangels - Myth and History
The Archangels - translated as "Chief Messengers" from Greek - are considered important figures in the three monotheistic religions. The most famous angels are Gabriel, Michael, Uriel, and Raphael, but there are more, each carrying significant symbols and meanings within religion.
The Significance in Christian Faith
For a long time, Christianity was in line with Judaism. It also had three or four archangels: Michael, Gabriel, Uriel, and Raphael. Christian art mainly depicted Gabriel as the messenger of Mary's conception and Michael as the herald of the Last Judgment and the Apocalypse. Uriel was primarily revered in the eastern part of the Christian religion. One theory of the four archangels is that they represent the four seasons: Gabriel for spring, Raphael for summer, Michael for autumn, and Uriel for winter. In the 16th century, Jehudiel, Sealtiel, and Barachiel were added. The Orthodox Church also describes an eighth, namely Jeremiel. In some cases, the West also speaks of up to twelve archangels.
The Archangels in Judaism and Islam
The other two monotheistic religions also mention the archangels, who hold an important position in their beliefs. Michael and Gabriel, in particular, are also mentioned in the holy scriptures.
The Position in Christian Faith
We focus on the archangels in Christian faith, as the topic is extensive enough here. In Christian theology, there is ongoing discussion about their position. Generally, they are assigned to the nine choirs of angels. Here, they occupy the third hierarchy alongside the angels. However, in popular belief, archangels are still regarded as higher than angels because they are considered princes of God and take on important roles.

He is said to help people lead successful lives. In times of stress and difficult situations, he gives them strength and new energy. This way, people can reorganize their lives and continue with love. Through the grounding that Uriel exudes, he connects people with God and tries to awaken it within everyone. He brings joy to people and shifts their focus away from material values. This allows them to reach a higher consciousness. He guides people to themselves and thus to God.
The Archangel Haniel - The Orange Light Ray

Haniel helps people recognize their own greatness, strengthening their courage and self-confidence. People can open up to new situations. The Special Archangel Metatron
Metatron is first mentioned in the Jewish faith and is now significant in Western esotericism. Metatron is said to have conveyed the will of God to the angels and is considered the king of angels, the beginning, and the end. Thus, he serves as a guide, advisor, in separations, and in finding balance.
In literature and film, Metatron is a popular motif; for example, in the series Supernatural, he is described as the scribe of God. Metatron has powers similar to God and banishes angels from heaven. In the movie Dogma, Metatron acts as the voice of God.
